JUNIOR RACKET     March 2011

Dear Juniors and Parents,



Welcome to the 2011 season. After another freezing winter, it’s nice to look ahead to a summer of tennis. The season starts in earnest from now on. It is no use waiting for Wimbledon before picking a racket up because the season and the best of the summer will be behind you.

Headline Event

Start of season event Saturday April 9…Please sign up asap



A great opportunity to start the season is our opening event on Saturday April 9. It will be run on similar lines as the highly successful World Cup event last year. It is an American style fun tournament where Juniors are paired with Senior players. It is a great opportunity for parents to play alongside or even against their children in a relaxed atmosphere.



The event will also be an opportunity to present trophies to our victorious teams in the North East Cheshire Junior Tennis League. Our U15 Boys A team won Division 1 and our U15 Boys B team won Division 3. So please sign up on the list outside the clubhouse to make sure the event is a success.



Friday night is club night



Junior Club Nights will run from Friday April 1st. Generally they run every Friday through to late September with the exception of Bank Holiday weekends and school summer holidays. The dates are as follows: April 1 to 15, May 6 to 27, June 10 to Aug 5, Sep 9 to 21. The format will be the same as last year:



3.30 – 5.00 pm Age 8 to Year 6

5.00 – 6.30pm Year 7 upwards



A coach will supervise these sessions. There is no charge to club members. Juniors may bring a guest to club night, subject to a guest fee of £1, payable on the night. A guest may only attend twice in a season, thereafter must become a junior member before attending any further club night sessions.

If you would like to have a go at playing for one of the teams, please contact the relevant team manager above and ask about team practices.



Urgent Help wanted



The committee have so far been unsuccessful in finding parents to run the annual Junior tournament. We need volunteers. No previous experience is needed and the task can be shared by individuals covering different age categories. The situation is straightforward. If no one comes forward, the tournament will not take place.
